Default Unable to receive/send files

Each time I attempt to send/receive files thru messenger a couple of minutes
into the transfer I get cut off saying " error due to firewall or connection
blocked" or something
like that. I'm running XP Home, Nortons Firewall 2003 and have a Lynksys
router. MY XP firewall is turned off, my firewall has enabled full rights to
messenger (send/receive) and 99% of the people receiving and sending me
files don't have firewalls installed. What do I do?
I've read numerous posts about NAT routers, presuming this is the problem,
how do I fix it or work around it?

Greetings Frank,

If you haven't upgraded your routers firmware, your Linksys router is probably using its
built-in Messenger file transfer support, which is known for these problems. To fix this,
upgrade to the latest version of your Linksys routers firmware (assuming its a popular model,
the version will be 1.44.2) at http://www.linksys.com/download.

Then, after the new firmware is installed, open up the router configuration, go to the
Password tab, and turn the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) toggle on. Then, install MSN
Messenger 5:
http://messenger.msn.com/download/do....asp?client=1.

After MSN Messenger 5 is installed and running, you should be able to send files without an
issue. Be aware that you will need to set MSN Messenger 5 up in the Norton Firewall (under
the programs allowed to access the internet, choose Permit All).

Hi Jonathan, I have Linksys befsr81 and just updated the firmware today to
it's latest version (mine was the version prior to this one) but i already
had MSN 5 messenger installed prior to the upgrade. Will this create a
problem?

Hi Frank,

No -- MSN Messenger 5 can installed at any time (the order isn't important).
