Default Windows appearance changing on reboot

I have recently purchased a new computer running Windows XP OEM.

I have set the DisplayAppearance setting to Windows Classic style, but the
appearance changes to Windows XP style on reboot. I then reset to Win
Classic, but the appearance reverts again to Win XP style on subsequent
reboots.

The computer has been scanned using Adaware, Spybot, MS Antispyware Beta and
also with virus scans. No problem has been detected.

Advice on how to fix this problem would be much appreciated.

After making the change did you click on the "Apply" button?

Hope this helps.

Windows Classic(Modified). Although I click ApplyOK after selecting it, do
I need to use Save As before Apply?

You do need to click on "Save As" before "Apply. However, I would try
scrolling down to "Windows Classic" as distinct from "Windows
Classic(Modified)" and see if that gets what you want.

Please let me know how you get on. However, I am away for 2 days
tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your help.

The problem seems to be related to enabling autologon using TweakUI. When I
disable autologon, appearance settings are retained on reboot- enable
autologon and they are not.

Not sure how to get around that one!
