Question Startnow Spyware--Removing

This is my first time here, so I hope I don't screw up completely. I printed out the instructions from an Microsoft MVP on how to "manually" remove Startnow, but he suggests backing up my registry and system (on a CD, I assume) or setting a Restore Point. I cannot back up at this time because my daughter broke the drive for CD-Record. How do I set a Restore Point?
