Start-up problems
I am getting an error message that hal.dll has been deleted or corrupted and
I can't get past that on start-up (even using safe boot, last best settings, etc...). I also can not fond the disk for a reinstall. I can copy the DLL file from another computer but can't get to a command prompt to even try and install. Any thoughts before I go buy a new version and reinstall? |

Start-up problems
jdoe55,
The problem could possibly be with the boot.ini file. To diagnose it you can do this: 1On your other computer which has the same configuration as this pc just put a blank floppy and format it. Next use this link http://1gighost.net/jerseyboy/xpquick.zip and download the zip file onto your desktop. Now unzip all the files to the floppy that you just formatted. Use this floppy to boot the computer(Just leave the floppy in the floppy drive of that computer and restart your system). This should start your computer using the floppy in the floppy drive and should bring you to a black screen with a prompt A:. If you have successfully made it till here then continue with the next step else tell me the exact steps that you performed and we'll take it from there. Note: We may have to change the boot settings in the bios if the first step doesnt work. 2Now that we have completed the first step let's continue. Now type in C: and press enter and your prompt will change to C:. Now type edit boot.ini and press enter. You should have some text on screen starting with [boot loader]. Please make a note of the entire text that you get and post it here. yogi "jdoe55" wrote: I am getting an error message that hal.dll has been deleted or corrupted and I can't get past that on start-up (even using safe boot, last best settings, etc...).
