This thread... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...itprovistaapps suggests there is a method whose side-effect is to disable the behavior. It seems unbelievable there isn't a registry entry that just controls the tray behavior. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer NoCDBurning (DWORD) 1 That (apparently) turns off built-in Windows optical disc burning, which you can replace with Imgburn or Nero. Maybe that means no more Drag and Drop burning (unless a third party application does it). You can try the doc here, and see if there is something else available. https://web.archive.org/web/20090303...DisplayLang=en Looks like WindowsServer2008andWindowsVistaSP1GroupPolicySett ings.xls isn't available, so I have to take the crappy xlsx instead. Line 2620 here, refers to the above registry entry. (It opened in my PowerPointViewer, after a conversion step ran. i have some package loaded, to deal with converting modern docx formats.) http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ett ings.xlsx Examples of what to do with it... I think :-) http://blogs.msdn.com/b/muaddib/arch...resources.aspx I'm not seeing any other entries in there that look interesting. ******* Imgburn was completely free at one time, but if you get a copy now, may have toolbars or other surprises. So don't be in too much of a rush when installing it. If I need to install that on a newer machine, I just find one of my old downloads of it. It's a nice program otherwise. You can notice the application "putting on weight" around 2.5.1.0 :-) For whatever that is worth. http://www.oldapps.com/imgburn.php Paul |

So it looks this isn't done in a jiffy... I'll see what can be done if feasible at all. I really hate it when things are happening unwantedly, automatically. Also what they call "smart" nowadays. And especially when options can't be disabled. This reminds me of my Nokia E75. I know, it isn't the newest model. But everytime I disconnect it from the power adaptor (phone switched off), the screen lights up for some time. God knows why, I suppose to empty the battery again as soon as possible. I'm really often puzzled by devices having a mind of its own... -- regards, |\ /| | \/ |@rk \../ \/os |
