USB Devices Attached has mulfunctions
Hi:
You can start doing some troubleshooting like, disconnecting all non essential USB devices, like webcams and card readrs, just the keyboard and mouse if they are USB and try the printer in trhe USB conecttors. If it fails, try another USB cable. If still have the same problem let us know. -- Un saludo Juan Perez "carynne" wrote in message ... USB Devices Attached has mulfunctions
Hi:
If is just your printer the one that is not detected, I sugest if posible to the connected to other computer, and see if it works. Other try you can do it is to redetect the USB ports from your computer in the following way: First, please disconnect all USB devices. Then, go through the following steps: 1. Press "Ctrl + Esc" to open the Start Menu. Press "Up" and "Down" to move the highlight to "Run" and press "Enter". 2. Type in "devmgmt.msc" and press "Enter". 3. In Device Manger, press Tab and use "Up" and "Down" to move the highlight to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". 4. Press "Right" and expand it. 5. Press "Down" to move to the first item and press "Delete" to remove it. 6. Repeat the step 5 and uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Then, restart your computer and Windows XP will reinstall all controllers automatically. Let us know if it works. -- Un saludo Juan Perez Este mensaje se proporciona "como está" sin garantías de ninguna clase, y no otorga ningún derecho. "carynne" wrote in message ... USB Device Malfunction
Hi Juan
I have the same error message as Carynne. ”One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it” This is a Toshiba laptop, and it effects all USB ports the same way. The computer was running XP Home originally. When I plug in a USB mouse I get the error, the mouse doesn’t light up and doesn’t work. If I plug in a USB Memory stick XP will Freeze and I have to shut down and restart. I disconnected power and battery to try to reset some memory – it didn’t help. I have uninstalled the USB drivers several times – they auto install successfully. I run Regedit and created a USB Key and a DWORD value called DisableSelectiveSuspend, set that value to “1”. I ran some test program that I found and it says that both Hardware and Software for the USB’s is OK. I formatted the hard drive and installed XP Professional. All the same fault. Finally I upgraded to Vista – and still faulty. Now the USB Memory doesn’t freeze the computer – just get the same error. |

computer gets "one of the usb devices has malfunctionedand windows does not support it." messages
Hello. I have an RCA Pearl TH1602 2GB Mp3 player that I got back in June. When I went down to my mom's back in July, the player wouldnt turn on, so I found the upgrade to the current version of the player and upgraded it, and it worked after that. I have now gotten this message as of today, but 3 days ago the player worked. But mysteriously later that day, the computer went haywire and we had to reformat the hard drive. Just got the computer back up and running and I am trying to put a song on my mp3 player but get this message. I have already tried the part where I shut down the computer, put the switch on the power supply to off, and disconnect the power cord, but not sure on uninstalling the USB drive hardware and having the Windows XP reinstall them. Can someone please help me with this?

One of the first things to do after formatting the hard drive and re-installing the Windows XP operating system is to make sure that all of the driver files have also been re-installed. There should have been an utility cdrom that was supplied with the computer. The driver files for the chipset, USB, sound, etc., would be on it. If there is no utility cdrom, then visit the website of the manufacturer of the computer and download the pertinent driver files for it and install them. |

Yours sucks. My newsreader will wrap. Not all do. Have you tried plugging a different device into that same USB port? USB ports are more fragile than some physically abusive users. Could be a port got damaged so try a different one. USB ports come in pairs (because the controller chip controls 2 channels). Is anything else plugged into the other paired USB port? If so, unplug it so only your problematic device occupies one of the paired ports. There is a max draw of 500mA across the paired USB ports, so make sure you only have the one USB device on the pair of USB ports when testing it. Are you plugging the device directly into a backpanel or frontpanel USB port? Or did you attach a USB hub to the computer and you are plugging the USB device into that hub? If you are using a hub, is it a powered or unpowered hub? "reformat the hard drive ... computer back up" doesn't say if you got around to installing the chipset drivers for the motherboard or if this unidentified computer is a pre-built that comes with a restore image CD. Is the device plugged into the USB port when you start Windows? Does it work if you unplug it, start Windows, login, and then plug in the USB device? Did the MP3 player come with software or drivers? Did you install those? The only software that I saw listed for this product was EasyRip which is probably just an application, not a driver. So it may assume the device will look like a removable mass storage device. See http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=396 for product description. When you plug in the USB player, do you see it listed in Windows Explorer or DiskMgmt.msc? If you go into Device Manager, does the device or port have a yellow exclamation mark along side it, or is it listed as "Unknown device"? |

computer gets "one of the usb devices has malfunctioned and window
I'm getting the same error now. This has popped up only recently. It is for
an mp3 player that has worked fine as a USB removable device. Now I get this error when connecting to my workstation and laptop. All has worked fine previously (this summer). I'm not sure what Windows patch broke this but it is failing on more than just my machines. All the hareware manager shows the device as now is "unknown" and of course the bubble that comes up in the system tray telling me one of the devices has malfunctioned. Even the manufacture's software that I had running on my system doesn't see the device now (no surprise as windows is not interacting with it first). I've checked different computers, different ports, tried replacing a driver (can't do that as the device is unknown). I've consulted a couple different forum groups and searched MS's site. Unfortunately everything tries to pull me to Vista and I'm using XP SP3. The common thing between my workstation and laptop is that they are both running XP (but different service packs - 2 vs. 3) so I'm ruling out hardware at this point. My player continues to run and works fine as an "island" but I can no longer connect to it. Maybe I should just "undo" Windows. Hmmmm. "unknown" wrote: |

Try it on another computer, or perhaps asking in the ipod forum on the
Apple site may point to the problem. Kelsey wrote: "USB Device not Recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
