Not fixed, it only reduces the occurrences, as noted:
"STATUS Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 was enhanced to reduce the occurrence of this behavior. FWIW, this problem is not tied to laptops or Compaq or IBM or anything else
other than Microsoft Windows XP! I have two desktop systems, both with more than 1 Gb of RAM, both custom built from top-of-the-line (at the time) components (but very few common components between the systems -i.e. different MB, processors, memory,...) yet they both exhibit this problem. The only group which will be able to fix this problem is Microsoft. I wouldn't mind it happening quite so much if the system reported the failure to Microsoft every time it happened (like it can do with application crashes) 'cause at least that way I know they would be reminded of it (and hopefully annoyed by it, even slightly) every time it happened. This problem may occur if the following conditions are true: . Your computer has one gigabyte (GB) or more of RAM. . Your computer is running multiple processes that create a high-stress condition. I - along with a huge number of other individuals - am experiencing a similar problem with Windows XP SP2. I am using an IBM ThinkPad T42, 2373-3UU, with 1.5GB of physical memory installed. I have plenty of space (10GB) available on my hard drive, and the size of hiberfil.sys matches my physical memory. When very few applications are open, I can successfully hibernate. When many are open - especially if I have been using Outlook for any meaningful period of time - I receive the following message when I attempt to hibernate, in a bubble near the system tray: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API. This just happened to me again (pushing me over the annoyance ledge enough to post on the newsgroups) so for a frame of reference, here are the performance stats from task manager: (they may not match up exactly because the numbers do fluctuate) Total Handles: 12915, Threads 623, Processes 61 Physical Memory: Total 1571760, available 628984, System Cache 192432 Commit Charge (K): Total 758656, Limit 2993452, Peak 761580 Kernel Memory: Total 83140, Paged 65536, Nonpaged 17580. A google search for the error message I received reveals a number of individuals with the same problem: (note that I expect the newsgroup server to truncate this URL) http://www.google.com/search?q=insuf...utf-8&oe=utf-8 An individual named Bryce Yehl has an excellent writeup and screenshot of the issue: http://www.ntwizards.net/2004/10/13/hibernate It's worth noting that I had no issues when I had only 512mb installed in the machine. I have reinstalled since that point in time with no impact on the situation. This issue has also been raised a few times previously in the newsgroups, as can be found by searching Google Groups for the error message. I have no found any record of it having been resolved - typically people blindly suggest solutions that do not solve the problem, like checking device drivers or adjusting page file size If an MVP monitoring these newsgroups could investigate and escalate this issue, I'd be eternally grateful. Hi to All,
i have the same problem on my Dell Latitude d800 mit XP SP 2 and all actual Patches since i upgraded to more than 1 GB (actual 2 GB)! The real strange thing is this: i put my notebook into hibernate mode. For about 15-30 minutes it is in hibernate mode BUT THEN it resumes ITSELF and pops up with "ufficient system resources exist to complete the API" this dosent happen all the time, it is not predictable when it will behave like described. It´s extremly dangerous when the notebook resumes in the notebook bag after 30 minutes. Overheating the system, maybe even fire etc. This really annoying MCP Samir Soliman "Warren" wrote: FWIW, this problem is not tied to laptops or Compaq or IBM or anything else other than Microsoft Windows XP! Hi,
seems like you need to have a look at your BIOS. There might be somekind of "wake-up" settings. But of course, if it's in a bag this might not be the issue. Just take a look and make sure ! HI Tom,
thanks for that advice, but since im an IT Consultant since 14 years it checked all those BIOS settings already and also talked to DELL support. No solution. The issue you describe is probably caused by memory fragmentation,
unfortunatley at present there is no fix for this from MS. I have recently logged a call with PSS on this very problem, the engineer provided me the following troubleshooting steps, the Q330909 article was updated because of my call (and recent calls on this issue) I would strongly encourage you to log this with PSS - it should be a free call as there is currently no resolution, you will need to go through the troubleshooting steps they provide to prove it is related to memory fragmentation, rather than a driver/3rd party software issue if you email me offline (simon dot gallagher at ioko dot com) I can provide you with the reference # for my call - this may help them investigate the issue and cross reference it. This is the only way this issue will be moved up Microsoft's priority list as at present only a small minority of people log this issue yet an increasing number of people with this configuration will experience it. The steps MS provided to narrow down this issue are as follows; (MS have ok'd this being published A generic list of steps to troubleshoot to narrow down the issue would be as follows: - Remove any synchronization software for Palm such as Sony Clie SL10 syncing software, ActiveSync, HotSync, Autosync, etc. If you installed such programs, please temporarily uninstall them. - Install SP2 for Windows XP which includes: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330909 - Install the following hotfix to upgrades the version of the HAL: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=889673 Hardware (DEP)-enabled computer may unexpectedly quit after you resume from standby or from hibernation in Windows XP Service Pack 2 - Use the following boot.ini entry "MAXMEM 1024" to limit the memory available to the operating system. If the issue continues to occur with this limitation in place we may have a different issue. - Be aware that certain applications can cause more memory fragmentation than others, depending on the way they are designed to use memory. - An occasional reboot (although not a solution) should reduce the occurrence of the issue. |
