HP photosmart 6520 a;;-in-one wireless printer networking proble with XP
I'm trying to get this printer working with a XP computer. It is for part of my
family about an hour drive from home. The printer has a wireless network connection, no ethernet connection. I have a wireless Linksys WRT310N router next to it, connected as an access point with DHCP disabled, with a wired ethernet connection to the other wireless Netgear AC1450 router at tha other end of the house, by the cable modem. The house is cinder block, which really limits the wireless range. Two laptops, one with windows 7, and one with windows 8 both connecting to the printer through the wired network to the wireless access point, then wirelessly to the printer, both work perfectly. The main router sees the printer as a wired connection through the access point router. The third computer, a two core XP PC, will not print. I've installed the drivers, and I can ping the printer, or access it's internal configuration pages just fine from the XP PC. I can tell those internal web pages to print printer network data, which works just fine. But trying to print a standard test page never works. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software and drivers several times - no help. The printer shows up on the page of attached network devices for the PC, but when I run "add a printer" it never shows up on the list of printers that browsing for printers shows. Has anyone ever seen anything like this, and/or have any suggestions? |

Use a USB to Ethernet Print Server such as a HP JetDirect 175x. Connect the printer to a PC that is connected to the network and share the Printer via a UNC. -- Dave Multi-AV Scanning Tool - http://multi-av.thespykiller.co.uk http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp |

Find "Print Spooler" and see if its status is set to "Started". If not, double-click it, change the startup type to "Automatic", click "OK", then restart the computer. If this doesn't help, you might try the the HP Print and Scan doctor. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...em=mp-129932-1 Ben |

Use a USB to Ethernet Print Server such as a HP JetDirect 175x. Interesting idea. Connect the printer to a PC that is connected to the network and share the Printer via a UNC. I did consider this, but none of the 3 computers is always on. This seems to be a XP configuration problem, since the other 2 computers work with the printer perfectly over the same network connections. |

I will try this the next time I get up to their house. Or maybe I can talk my sister through these tests, |

After a bit more messing around, I shut down the Zonealarm firewall, and it started printing OK. I did look at this before, but could find no printer related process that zonealarm idicated it was blocking. I remove zonealarm, installed Comodo free firewall, and it all works fine. Many thanks for your ideas. The telnet idea did convince me that the hardware was working fine, and maybe pointed me in the right direction. |

It tests the Print Server at the lowest level such that it is OS and driver independent. It is a trick I have used countless times for at least 10 years. -- Dave Multi-AV Scanning Tool - http://multi-av.thespykiller.co.uk http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp |
