"Good registry cleaner" may a bit of an oxymoron, as they can sometimes remove some obscure registry settings that you may later find out were necessary for some programs or windows services to run properly. Other than that, CCleaner is a pretty well known program, and can be useful, so long as you are prudent in its use. I don't believe CCleaner is designed to remove spyware, however - there are some other programs that are specifically designed for that purpose (e.g: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, etc). |

However you should *never* use its registry cleaning functionality. Although CCleaner's registry cleaner is somewhat safer than most, registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit it may have. Read http://www.howtogeek.com/171633/why-...r-fix-crashes/ and also http://blogs.technet.com/markrussino...t-of-life.aspx You also might want to read the section on the CCleaner Registry Cleaner he http://www.howtogeek.com/113382/how-...9-tips-tricks/ Let me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against the use of registry cleaners has ever said that they always cause problems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear from the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry cleaner and never had a problem with it. Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it the substantial *risk* of having a problem. And since there is no benefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad bargain. Also note that CCleaner is not an anti-malware program, and does *not* protect you against spyware and viruses. |

CCleaner's main use is to find and delete unnecessary and unwanted files on your computer, such as temporary files, old browser cache files, browser cookies, etc. It's excellent for that, and I use it often. Its "Registry cleaning" feature is mild, but you should still use it with caution or not at all, unless you are very familiar with what it proposes to do and are prepared to recover your computer if something goes wrong. Registry "cleaning" is nearly always unnecessary and is unlikely to improve your computer's performance. I say, skip the "cleaning" feature, but use the file elimination features with confidence. |

(The point being, if you are at least familiar with the use of regedit, you probably are acutely aware of some of the perils that lie within its use (or misuse). :-) |

The registry cleaner is rudimentary in that it will remove orphaned dos endings and such but not much more. It has nothing to do with mal/spies/viruses. Malwarebytes for malware. Adaware/adcleaner for spies. Your fav virus cleaner for viruses. Kaspersky Rescue Disk works good. |

You have to be careful running in Administrator mode, with any "cleaner". Bleachbit actually asks for your password before making any changes. |
