Stopping Flashplayer files being saved.
System is Win XP SP3 Pro
Problem is that, as I browse, Macromedia Flashplayer files are loaded onto my computer. That's not TOO bad, because it is a consequence of the sites that I browse to (usually news sites). However, they nest the files DEEP DEEP into the file system, such that the file pathname exceeds the length acceptable to Win XP. I believe that is about 240 characters. Windows won't let me delete, move, or copy the file. I can use Pathscan to find the offending files. The issue affects my ability to make backups. My workaround is to rename some of the components of the pathname to shorter names until the whole pathname is under 240 characters and then delete it (or whatever). I'd rather not have to fuss with this every time I make a backup. I'd rather block this from happening in the first place. Perhaps this is a browser issue rather than a Win XP issue. I am using Firefox 40 something. Rich |

If the browser handles filenames, it usually stores the file in the cache with an anonymous name, and has a mapping somewhere to the real file name. However, if you were actually downloading the files in question into a Download folder ("Save As"), it would be a different matter. It sounds like the storage operation uses something which is not covered by anonymous operation. Not one of the cache areas. Paul |
