Help needed with XP Pro and network
I've been checking different switches to check for
communication and so far have found the following: 1) Although the light on the back of the computer lights up, I do no have a corresponding light on the switch. 2) On one switch, I have had trouble with other computers on the switch becoming unconnected to the network when I plug in the notebook. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks, Erik -----Original Message----- -----Original Message----- I'm attempting to set up a new laptop on my company's network. As we use a domain, I have set all settings exactly as my desktop, which is Windows 2000 Professional (with the exception of the last digit of the IP address) My problem is that I cannot log onto the network. I get an error message stating that windows cannot obtain the domain controller for your computer network. I believe it's a problem with the addresssing, as I cannot ping any other machines on the network. However, in looking at the properties of the LAN connection, the IP address looks correct, and I am showing sending some data, yet none received. The notebook has a wireless network card in it, but I have disabled the card in my attempt to troubleshoot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Erik . It sounds like you have a hardware level problem. Are the link lights on at your network adapter and hub? Is the network adapter in the notebook functional? For ping to work, you only need working hardware and valid IP addresses. Also, make sure that ping works elsewhee so that you know that there is no firewall blocking it. Good luck . |
