Microsoft Word...
For some reason, whenever I open Microsoft Word (not sure what version I
have, it came with my laptop that I got last year), anyways, when I open it up, the program locks up and after several seconds says (Not Responding) at the top. It has never done this before... any advice? |

Microsoft Word...
Although your question might better be serviced in the Word newsgroup
without being flamed, I will try to help you the best I can with the information you have provided. Do a search for a file called Normal.dot Delete all instances of this file and then open Word. Microsoft Word will create a new Normal.dot file upon execution of the program. See if this solves your dilemma. If not, and if the problem is only localized to Microsoft Word I recommend you post in that newsgroup. Also, if you can run a Detect and Repair feature from any Office program under Help, or use the CD. -- Michael D. Microsoft Word...
I tried the first bit of advice - the Normal.dot part, and it did not fix the
problem. Perhaps I'm an idiot - I can't seem to find the Word newsgroup... I cannot use the Detect and Repair feature, as the program locks up right when it opens, you can't click anything, and now that I see, the same thing is happening to all of the Office programs. So, should I just reinstall the programs? Hopefully I can find the disk... Anyways, thank you for your help, I appreciate it. "Michael D. You can try Microsoft.public.word.newusers. But now you have me
intrigued. When did this start? What happened before hand? -- Michael D. Microsoft Word...
Aha, thank you!
Not sure, it's probably been at least a week since I used the program. I just opened it earlier today to look at a document I had typed up a while ago, and that's the first time it ever happened. That was it, I opened it, I was about to click File and open up a saved document, but you couldn't click anything, and it stopped responding. "Michael D. Click Start Settings Control Panel Add/Remove Programs.
Scroll to MS Office and select it. Click on Change. Select Reinstall or Repair. You may or may not need the disk depending on if the setup files were copied to disk when initially installed. -- Brian A.
