Default Where is my "Start menu" ???

Hmm... just discover this !!

Wondering around the wonderful world of Internet I found the following
picture ---

http://www.microsoft.com/library/med...startmenu1.jpg

Then I click the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" on my own PC and
found something really weird !

As you can see in the that picture at Microsoft, there are two items
under the "Start Menu" tab --

"Start menu"

and

"Classic Start menu"

Mine ... only the "Classic Start menu" appears !

What is going on???

How to make it so that my "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" looks
like the one in the picture??

Please help.

Thanks!!

Maybe you're using Windows XP Home Basic.

I'd backup my data, format and re-install XP.

At least one of the newsgroups you posted to isn't carried by my isp's news
server and throws an error when I try to respond. Pick a newsgroup, ask
your question and if you don't get a response, ask somewhere else.
Cross-posting will get you in my killfile rather quickly.

WRONG answer. Home Basic looks exactly like the picture.

I'd backup my data, format and re-install XP.

Your problem, not the OP's... or mine, for that matter.

With the crappy advice you gave as an example of your technical
prowess, you should put everyone in your killfile, you moron... that
way they would never get a reply from you.

There is no such animal. There is XP Home, Pro, Media Center, and Windows
XP Starter Edition. XP Starter Edition is a lower-cost version of Windows
XP available in Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, India,
Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay
and Venezuela. It is similar to Windows XP Home, but is limited to low-end
hardware, can only run 3 programs at a time, and has some other features
either removed or disabled by default.

According to a Microsoft press release, Windows XP Starter Edition is "a
low-cost introduction to the Microsoft Windows XP operating system designed
for first-time desktop PC users in developing countries.

I'd backup my data, format and re-install XP.

Is that your answer to all your problems? There is a remedy that isn't as
drastic as what you've recommended...

It's a simple fix, though it does require making some changes in your computer's registry. Make a backup of your registry before making any changes just in case. If you don't know how to do that then read this article: How to Backup and Restore the Registry.

Now to restore the Start Menu Go to Start = Run and type in "regedit" {without the quotes}

Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer

In the right-hand pane, right-click on NoSimpleStartMenu and Modify its Value to decimal 0 [dword:00000000]

Logoff and logon again (or restart) for the changes to take effect.

Uhh, Sinner, I assume you meant multi-posting. Cross posting would put
it into all the newsgroups and once you'd seen it, it would be marked
read in all the others when you go there. Excepting groups you don't
get of course.

Uh no, I meant cross-posting. I only read one newsgroup,
alt.windows-xp. I don't care to see answers from other newsgroups. I
would much rather he multi-posted. It saves my killfile from
growing so rapidly.

And he has a BIG killfile but he is right...
**** their is something wrong Sinner, I have been agreeing with you
to much lately....

I prefer cross-posting to a few "Relevant" groups rather than finding the
same post multi-posted in 6 different groups. When it's cross-posted, I can
see what has already been suggested and either enhance an answer, or ignore
the thread as "already answered." However, I would prefer never seeing a
'microsoft.public.xxxx' group included in a cross-post. (Too many idiots in
them.)
