Brother MFC install problem with XP

I have been unable to install my brothers mfc 4800
printer/fax/scanner. I have windows XP 2002 home edition.
I get an error message as follows: unable to install
hardware. The I/O operation has been aborted because opf
either a thread exit or an application request. Need some
help. Thanks.
