Perplexing startup problem with new-old MB (D845GEBV2)
I recently purchased a replacement D845GEBV2 motherboard (both are the
same model, although obviously different steppings-- the new one, for instance, does not have a LAN connection--the old one did) for an old “guest-room” machine from an eBay seller. To cut directly to the chase, the replacement motherboard refuses to boot XP in normal mode although it is very happy doing so in safe mode. I've tried everything I can think of including restoring an old image, reinstalling the appropriate chipset software in safe mode, uninstalling virus checker, pulling out both cards, testing with the onboard video card, and so forth but with no luck. The boot up always hangs some time before (most often) or after authentication (it rarely gets that far). I am using the same CPU and memory as before so do I have a faulty replacement motherboard? If so, I need to do something about it very soon before the 14 day exchange period this seller allows is up. If not, what do I do next? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment! |

PS--I even tried an XP repair from installation CD--same thing! |
