Default WEBROOT on Windows 10

I'm hoping someone can help!

A few months back I took my computer into Best Buy and turned it over
to the Geeks. They talked me into buying an antivirus called WEBROOT.

It didn't catch any viruses but the year subscription ran out and they
want me to renew it as it is now it won't do anything, it just shut
down and won't do anything but requiring me to update it for just
under $100. I'm also using Windows defender which is free and it did
catch something so I reasoned that I don't need this blankety-blank
WEBROOT.

I've tried for two months and there's no way in Hades that I can
uninstall it. I've gone to the website I've called them up in the
fellow on the other end of the phone can't speak English well enough
for me to understand it. It took me about 30 minutes to explain to him
that I wanted to uninstall WEBROOT but I finally had the give it up.

The instructions I gleaned from their webpage tells me I have to
uninstall it Programs & Features which it's not there. (Oh and by the
way I'm using Windows 10).

I can click on START, All Apps in it shows to be there but when I
click on uninstall it doesn't do a thing. I did find on their webpage
a URL to put in the search box but that doesn't do anything.

Boy, I sure could use some help, nothing I found in Google has helped
me so far.

I had a similar problem with Avira free version.
It won't do anything but demand to be updated.
It won't update.
It won't uninstall.
If you kill it, it comes back. I booted linux and deleted
everything Avira I could find with prejudice. Still comes back.
Their standalone registry scrubber fails.
I finally gave up and reinstalled windows.

Hope you have better luck.

A lot of AV products, the developer has a "cleanup tool" on the web site.
That's the first thing I look for. Normally, you are supposed to use
Control Panels : Programs and Features, remove the application from there,
and *then* run the cleanup tool. I don't really see that mentioned here.
Because these programs may be running something in a SVCHOST, the
regular uninstaller may not be designed to tell the services to shut
down properly, so that the removal attempt actually works. Safe Mode
can disable certain drivers, but I don't know if that is sufficient
to disable everything in an AV product.

The following procedure recommends a Restore Point. I'd do a backup
of C: and System Reserved, before doing it. Even the backup routine
in the Control Panels is better than nothing.

https://www.webroot.com/prodCheck/?pc=64150&origrc=1&oc=221&mjv=7&rel=6&bld=38&lang= en&loc=AUS&kc=ppc%60lkik^^afhgpewgfa&opi=2&omj=6&o mn=1&osl=en

"Most install or uninstall errors can be resolved by either uninstalling
any previously installed Webroot security software or by running a
couple of specialized cleanup utilities first and then reinstalling
anew. The following are the recommended steps to follow:"

"Webroot Upgrade/Cleanup tool"

"The cleanup tool is finished when the last line reads
"Removal procedures have been completed."
"

"To complete the cleanup process, you must reboot this computer.
Click OK to reboot"

http://download.webroot.com/WRUpgradeTool.exe 7,555,864 bytes, Ver 7.0.12.24

Step 6 seems to be recommending Step 4, only this time
while being booted into Safe Mode.

If they can't write a nice text description of what to do,
what are the odds they can write software ? :-)

HTH,
Paul

If I took it to the Geek Squad, and I paid to have them put a software
subscription on my computer and then could not deleted it, I would take
it back to them and demand they remove it.

In essence they put defective software on your computer, and should
correct the problem. I would go up the management chain as far as
necessary to get it resolved, and demand my money back

I took it back to the Geeks and they uninstalled it and free of charge
because I had bought a maintenance plan with them. They tried to sell
ith me a different one but I refuse.
