The best wireless router that is compatible with Windows Messenger 4.7
as title, I'm looking for a wireless router for my ADSL broadband so
that I could connect both my desktop PC and my laptop PC to the Internet at the same time, but then I heard that a lot of the wireless routers (or regular broadband router) do not compatible with the Windows Messenger 4.7 for some reason, is anyone here using a wireless router that can connect all of your computers to the Internet and can still run Windows Messenger 4.7 and other video conference programs (e.g. NetMeeting, CUSeeMe...etc.), and if so, what is the brandname/model# of your wireless router, and among all those compatible wireless routers, which model is the best buy (with best performance in terms or range and speed).. thanks! |

The best wireless router that is compatible with Windows Messenger 4.7
Greetings,
What you're really looking for is a router that supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). One such router that does this well is the Microsoft Wireless Base Station (MN-500): http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/br...sestation.aspx As well, as the Linksys BEFW11S4: http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...id=35&prid=415 Both should be at Best Buy. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "T.T. The Microsoft MN-500 Rocks.
I was having lots of problems with both Linksys & SMC Wireless router I had connected in user SoHo's. Problems with Multiple VPN's (linksys) and Messenger (SMC). All of these went any when I installed the MN-500. Awesome product easy to install and works well!!! I liked it so much I have now bought 6 of them and had all my SoHo users replace the wireless router they were using with this one. The best wireless router that is compatible with Windows Messenger 4.7
Hi,
A number of them do, including the MN-100 from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/br...sestation.aspx The BEFSR41 from Linksys (this is probably one of the most popular routers out there): http://www.linksys.com/products/prod...cid=29&prid=20 Those are really the two I'm most familiar with, D-Link, SMC, and Netgear all have UPnP enabled routers, although I really have no experience with how great they are -- thankfully however, newer routers with UPnP support built-in will have a "UPnP" logo on the box, so look for that. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "T.T. Thanks a lot!
Just another quicky: Is a router (wireless or not) that support UPnP, does it mean that it would also support XBox live, NetMeeting, XP remote desktop connection/remote assistance,...etc?? Thanks! |

The best wireless router that is compatible with Windows Messenger 4.7
Hi,
Xbox Live and Remote Assistance does make use of UPnP. However, Netmeeting utilizes the H.323 protocol (nearly all routers made in the last 3-4 years+ support H.323). ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Windows MVP, Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com "T.T.
