Computer sends, but will not receive.
I have WindowsXP and a "Swann Smart USB 56K V92" modem.
The Microsoft Fax Console is: V5.1 with SP3 2007. In parallel I have a Sharp FO-P710 fax machine, and I get in faxes with this OK. Why can't I get faxes in via the MS Fax Console too? The Windows Computer Management "Event Viewer" error message gives: "The Fax service failed to receive a fax. From: . CallerId: .. To: 96871381. Pages: 0. Device Name: Swann ST56 USB Modem #2." Please help, Frank |

Thanks, but even with the Sharp fax machine disconnected,
the Windows Fax Console gives the same error. Frank "Mike Hall - MVP" wrote in message ... "Frank Martin" wrote in message ... I have WindowsXP and a "Swann Smart USB 56K V92" modem. What is Modem #1?
Anyway, the message you see can be caused by more than one problem. The modems could not establish a good data connection, or took to long to do so. The modem fax modes are not compatable. (This may sometimes be overcome by setting your modem to a specific fax mode.) Either modem may be dropping out a bit too soon, before the negotiation is completed with the other modem Read the modem manual time! In the modem setup dialog, you should be able to enable a modem log file. This might help in determining the exact cause of the problem. Or, it might not, due to some problems in the microsoft modem command/reply parser.G Another possible problem with "soft" modems has to do with what other software is running. The P/C can be taking to long to "service" the modem. Standard windows has a problem now and then with "real time" operations. Thanks, I'll check this out. My needs here are for a backup
in MS Fax Console to capture copies of all faxes received, for future reference. Most outgoing faxes are sent directly from the computer from MSWord2003 and Acrobat, and the Console saves these successfully. "Chuck" wrote in message ... What is Modem #1?
