Edge is now no better for MS Services, than any other browser. IE11 supports ActiveX. Some web sites (the Windows Update kind), used to use ActiveX plugins. No other browser supported those, which made Internet Explorer "a lock". Now, MSEdge doesn't have ActiveX, so is useless for situations involving ActiveX. Paul |

In Edge there's a link to 'Open with Internet Explorer' for additional functionality. Edge continues to improve, but is still lacking in e.g. bookmark support, bookmarklets etc. But it is the preferred MSFT 'goto' browser for home and business use. |

And also has the disadvantage of not being another browser. It's not only ActiveX that's gone. VBScript, quirks mode, BHOs, MIME filters, Explorer bars.... https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/...t-attachevent/ Microsoft spent nearly 20 years adding clever (though unsafe) functionality to IE. In IE11 it's broken but can be partially retrieved through compatibility mode. VBS, ActiveX and quirks mode are examples of functionality that makes IE more powerful and more adaptable. For years web designers have built around IE. With quirks mode webpage rendering they could keep that code and not have it break in newer versions of IE. Now that's all gone. With quirks mode, the webpage author decides whether a page should render the old way or according to the latest changes in whatever version of IE someone is using. The webpage author can no longer specify rendering in IE11. The visitor must select compatibility mode. ** The main difference between IE11 and Edge is that in IE11 there's an option to bring back the functionality using compatibility mode. In Edge it's just gone. ** Twenty years of web designers catering to Microsoft's way of doing things, and now MS have broken all of it in Edge. Another notable aspect is the IE/Explorer tie-in. Edge is the final end of Active Desktop. In a way that's good. BHOs, Explorer Bars, Browser Extensions, MIME filters, etc were all things that made IE unsafe as a browser online. But the trick was not to use IE online. All of that functionality make IE an amazing tool for writing small programs (HTAs) and the whole Active Desktop IE/Explorer integration provided creative flexibility in the Windows UI. I'm not sure what the current state of shell extensions is in Win10, but I'm guessing they're being phased out. Here's the kind of thing that used to be easy to do: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...=vs.85%29.aspx It's a complicated topic, but the IE tie-in made the shell flexibility more extensive. For instance, I could write a BHO to cause my Explorer Bar to load in all Windows Explorer windows. Controlling Windows Explorer was similar to controlling IE, through script or software. But now BHOs are gone in Edge. IE11 is still there mainly for corporate customers writing HTAs. So what does that mean for shell extensions? Probably not a rosy future. |

I don't personally know anyone who admits to preferring Edge. As others have said, it's pretty awful as a browser, arguably the worst of the lot. |

Preferred by Microsoft, of course. And probably by all their employees (who are afraid to say it's not their preference). G I don't personally know anyone who admits to preferring Edge. Amazingly, I do know a couple of people. As others have said, it's pretty awful as a browser, arguably the worst of the lot. Yep! |
