Default sound on windows live messenger

Ok...so i have the newest windows live messenger and the sound won't
work no matter what i do!! I've disabled then re-enabled it, i've
changed the sounds, i've went to my sound settings and muted the
messenger sound and unmuted it, i've even deleted the messenger all
together and redownloaded it. I don't know what else to try!!
