adding memory
winxp(home).
One of my 512 memory stick went out. System only recognizes 512 instead of 1gb. To check I took it out and tried it in another system- no go. Here's the question and I know it's probably not correct newsgroup but should be simple answer for you sys gurus. The sticks are ddr333, 512meg, 184 pin. I have a extra ddr400, 1gb, 184 pin stick. The instruction for the MB says up to 4 gig and ddr333. Will the ddr400 work w/o messing up system? |

Most likely yes but only run at 333
mobo make usually helps in a question like this peter -- If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate or disruptive, please ignore it. If you dont know how to ignore a posting complain to me and I will be only too happy to demonstrate :-) "L.S." wrote in message ... winxp(home). One of my 512 memory stick went out. Normally, it is not recommended to "mix" the memory rated types, especially if these are "non-brand" names like Kingston, Corsair or Crucial. These 'generic" memory makers tend to make "inferior" cheap module by cutting corners. These "cheap" modules a lot of times do not work with other modules. |

Most likely will be fine as long as the
voltage specs of the DDR400 meet the motherboard requirements. CPUID (CPU-Z) http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Click on the SPD tab after you install the ram and then use the pull down to check each memory stick.
