Repair option in XP
I am probably going to have to reinstall XP but first I want to try the
repair option. Where on the disc is this option. I remember seeing it before but I can't find it now. Do I have to go past the upgrade or new installation message? I didn't want to go past that until I knew the repair option was in there. Also, what does the repair option affect...installed programs wise? TIA -- All Mail Sent and Received Has Been Scanned By: Norton Anti-Virus 2002 Updated Daily you just boot from the cd and you will be asked if you want to repair or install if you select "repair" you will eventually get a chance to repair your system (it will replace the "system" files) btw..this may actually work better than the "repair" option go to *reinstall* if you select the option to install *without* formatting you can install XP back over itself. although you'll have to reapply the service pack your data and apps should remain intact i've done it with success however if you do so...it;s at your own risk... so be sure to backup any data you need first |

And the programs you had installed were still installed? Very nice if that would work :-) |

Repair option in XP
Thx to you both for responding. It turns out that the repair option didn't
fix the problem anyway so I still had to do a fresh install :-( "ÐïÅßö¥ø§©" wrote in message ... I am probably going to have to reinstall XP but first I want to try the repair option. Registry settings for the programs will no longer be there and it would be a mess. |

Whenever I have problems with XP (usually after
editing the registyry), I launch winnt32.exe et choose Upgrade It always works flawlessly. All programs that worke4d before the operation still do. No exception.
