Default Windows resets the mouse randomly. Long, detailed message. Please bear with me

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that I do have windows set to be
able to "use this device to bring the computer out of
standby" on every usb device but the gamepad, HOWEVER, I
have disabled standby mode from running at all due to the
adverse effects it can have when it shuts off the
harddrives if you bump a key or something and they come
right back on immediately. (This was especially bad when
I had a keyboard that had a sleep and wakeup key next to
each other. If I hit one, I might bump the other by
accident and then the computer would go immediately to
standby, then immediately wake up, and sometimes the
harddrive wouldn't even bother to respond freezing it
entirely.) So windows shouldn't be shutting it off for
power saving or anything. Besides, now it is detected as
using 0mA since it's on the hub, which is currently set
to not draw power from the internal hub (although for
just a mouse and keyboard, I shouldn't have to have the
extra cord running through...)

Can anyone please help me solve this problem? This is
really screwing things up and is far more than just a
slight annoyance at this point. Now I can expect it to
cut off the mouse twice in the middle of any operation
I'm doing practically, usually when I try to use it after
not using it for long periods of time. My only other
alternative is to reinstall windows xp, perhaps without
even service pack 1 and block all the automatic updating,
and that might cause problems such as the security holes
that are supposed to be closed by them, hardware issues
supposedly fixed, and so on. So far I haven't run into
any, but I'd rather keep it that way...
