Free Windows 8.1 and 10
Those who bought Windows 8 had free 8.1 and now they will have Windows 10
free for a year. Does this mean Windows is becoming a system for all? Who will want open source system if we can get the best available system on the market? Only concern I have is what is going on. This way no one will have complaints. |

For that matter, while pretty much everyone uses Windows, that doesn't automatically make it the "best" OS. Only concern I have is what is going on. This way no one will have complaints. Define "what is going on". And there will ALWAYS be complaints. -- Your happiness is not worth my job. |

If you mean by saying that "they will have Windows 10 free for a year" is that it can only be used for one year, that is incorrect. Licensed users of Windows 7, 8, & 8.1 have one year from the release of Windows 10 to get it for free. It can be used as long as the user likes, use is not limited to one year. |

If you mean using what fits that individual then no, Windows may not be the "best" in this case regardless of popularity. -- Ken Mac OS X 10.8.5 Firefox 36.0.4 Thunderbird 31.5 "My brain is like lightning, a quick flash and it's gone!" |

There's no implication that Springer knows best, only the obvious observation that a one-size-fits-all OS such as Windows 10 is not the best for everybody. When he talks of 'using what fits that individual' that implies some judgment he makes that is somehow superior to that of the said individual. With me so far? Implying that he knows best. BTW, "most used" is not equivalent to "most popular", as you infer. It would be the case for Windows if people bought blank machines, and selected the OS (or more than one) at time of purchase. But that's not how it goes. Nonsense. There's plenty of choice and the Windows one even has substantial cost. It would not be the choice of so many if it didn't meet their needs. And "most popular" does not mean "best", and never has. "most popular" means it's the best choice for many. Sometimes the best is most popular, and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the most popular becomes a classic, sometimes it doesn't. And so on. If these observations strike you as "elitist", too bad. We seem to have hit a nerve here Wolf. Perhaps you think being elitist is somehow shameful? |
