If you turn off the splash screen in the BIOS,
the "BIOS string" is at the bottom of the first
screen. You press Pause/Break to stop the screen,
then write down the details.

I hate those splash screens by the way. Show
me the text, any time.

With the text there, I can see that I forgot to plug
in the power cable on one of the disk drives,
as the system starts POSTing.

You also get to see the "F2, F12" prompts at
the bottom, that tell you the BIOS entry key
and the popup boot menu keys.

Hi Paul,

Ha! But I am seldom quick enough! I get
distracted by shiny things way too easily.
I also do a lot of remote assistance where
I only have contact with the operating system.

I use msinfo32.exe and dmidecode a lot to make
permanent records of what my customer have.
