You can backup whole disks or the system partition. I routinely backup my C drive to my D drive in D:\backups https://www.backup-utility.com/ If you try it, be sure to burn the recovery disk in case something happens to your C drive. Tested Aomei, and uninstalled it. Cloning is done from within windows, instead of from a cd. I dont like that. Doesn't the boot disk you create let you backup from it? I haven't tried it. I found no option for a boot disk. |

It even gives an option to create separate boot disks based on Windows or on Linux |

That took long and failed(no 64bit processor???) Then tried the linux boot disk. That worked. |

It's a known issue where it goes to 99% and says it failed. On the boot disk creation tool I had to use the export to an iso file and burned it with Nero instead. The bug is mentioned he https://www.aomeitech.com/forum/discussion/3199/creating-boot-disk-stops-at-99/p1 |

I understand Acronis, does what I thing I want to do, but.......... If you backup an image of each drive to the other, you soon end up with massive sizes for each backup, as they add to each other (no point in backing up a backup file). Huh? How does that happen? Drive C is drive C. It has nothing to do with the media is being backed up to. Yes, you can end up with a massive amount of data depending on how many backups and the size of drive C. But each individual backup does not massively increase in size (unless you are doing a fresh install of Windows and adding programs). When you have too many backups, you delete a few. |
