Default "Acquiring Network Address" bug with SP2

I only use static addresses on my network but after both of my machines had
SP2 applied I keep seeing a network icon in my taskbar that when moused over
shows a status of "acquiring network address". It doesn't go away either and
the little animation keep playing even though I am connected to the network
and no settings have been changed. I searched on the net for this and saw
someone else had the same problem with a older prerelease version of SP2.
Interestingly if I switch user to administrator the status shows "connected".
Switching back to my regular Power User account still shows the status
"acquiring network address"even though I'm clearly connected.
I assume this is just some sort of bug with SP2 since I've never seen it
before SP2 but I figured I would post and see if there were any fixes for
this out there.

Just thought I'd add some more people that are seeing the same bug..

Guess I'll formally report to MS and see if that gets anywhere.

Mike--

I tried to find a fix for this when I saw it the other day. I couldn't, but
I noticed it is not uncommonly reported on different forums/groups. MSFT is
plenty aware of it, but maybe they have a fix that can help you. Here are
some links that might give you an idea of how to get rid of it. I didn't
find anything specific, but the material is in the ballpark.

The problem is showing up frequently.

I don't have the icon but can might find a way to get rid of it from

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1482476501-1788223648-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App lets\SysTray

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Applets\SysTray

and I wonder if you can get it done from the dialogue boxes discussed in
this article in August Cable Guy from MSFT:

Troubleshooting Missing Network and Dialup Connection Icons

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/com...y/default.mspx

after I upgraded to SP2 I have an icon in my system tray poping that my
connection status is limited--how do I get this out of the notification
area?
