Some contacts can see me and some can't

When I log into MSN messenger some of my contacts can see me online and
others can't. Even the one's that can see me online seem to not be able to
send me a message. I can send them one and everything clears up but until I
do that I don't know someone is trying to send me a message. Is there a fix
for this. Does anyone have any suggestions? This does not happen to all of my
contacts but for most of them it does.
