cannot continue installing WINXP, SP3 files needed
Problems, problem, and dilemmas and soforth.................PLEAS HELP!
I'm running XP and I had SP3 before I attempted to do a repair of Windows. During install it asked for the 'ASMS ON WIN PRO SERVICE SP3' NEEDED. It ask to (type the path to where the file is located). I have an XP Home Edition disk and my XP PRO install disk does not have the files for SP3. Now I cannot perform any other function but install. question 1: Since I had SP3 on the system already. Shouldn't the operating system have the SP3 files stored in the C:\ drive? Why can't I just type the path to where the SP3 files are located? question 2: Is there a place where I can download in Microsoft whatever I need on to a CD. insert and restart the system then type the drive letter when asked to where the disk is and continue installation from there? -- Thanks, Phil |

If you have XP Pro installed and SP3 installed, you can't use an XP Home
CD to do a repair install, nor can you use an XP Pro CD that is not at the SP3 level. You must use an XP Pro SP3 disc. You can make one by slipstreaming the SP3 files from the downloaded SP3 installer with your XP Pro SP1 or SP2 CD files, onto a new disc you can burn, using Autostreamer. Autostreamer Tutorial: http://www.ubcd4win.com/slipstream.htm As long as your XP CD includes at least SP1, you can slipstream SP3 into it on a new disc. The tutorial describes SP2 but the process is the same, just substitute SP3. Autostreamer download is he http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/S...streamer.shtml or he http://www.ubcd4win.com/downloads/AutoStreamer.exe You will have to that on someone else's computer since you can't use yours now. Then you will have to try running setup from the slipstreamed CD you burn. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Oct. 2002 - Sept. 2009 A+ http://dts-l.net/ "Phil" wrote in message ... "peter" wrote in message ... and here is the download site for SP3 .iso file http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0-fe22559d164e Thanks for adding that link, Peter. You can also use the downloaded SP3 ..exe file, which is much smaller: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en Here's another guide for Autostreamer, with screenshots (substitute SP3 where it says SP2): http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/u...streamer.shtml -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Oct. 2002 - Sept. 2009 A+ http://dts-l.net/ |
