Default Briefcase synchronization. Is it one-way or two-way?

I have just strted using Briefcase to keep some files on my desktop computer
in sync with the same files that I change on my laptop. It looks to me from
help explanations that the synchronization only works to update the files on
the desktopwhen the files have been changed on the laptop. Is there any way
to have it keep the files in sync whether the changes are made on the laptop
or the desktop?
