OK. Well, I appreciate your help. I was just hoping that maybe one of

the
other folks that had reported this in the past in this group had found a
solution, or someone that knew what file/registry entry being

missing/wrong
version, etc caused this, and would see this post. For all I know it

may
have been caused by some automatic update from MS since I have my

computer
set to do that automatically.
At any rate, I went ahead and installed the cheesy little fax app that

came
with my modem so I can fax again in the interim. I'll just use that for
now. At some point I may just do a from scratch reload of XP on this
machine. I'm sure that will fix whatever is wrong.

This makes it rather hard to troubleshoot or even guess what might

have
happened. If you can think of any changes made to your system at all,

it
will provide the only clue to the solution.

Sorry, I misunderstood. By "suddenly" I meant that with no prior
indication
of a problem. I send maybe 2 faxes a week, some weeks none. The

last
one
I
tried to send
revealed this issue. The previous one (maybe a week prior) went

fine.
No
changes were made, that I can recall. No new applications were

installed
or
any other config changes as far as I can remember.

To make it fail:

1. Print to the fax printer from within a document.

2. The fax wizard starts.

Default Cannot send fax w/cover page

Ah. I see it. It says "Microsoft Shared Fax Driver". I uninstalled and
reinstalled Fax and it still says the Model is "Microsoft Shared Fax
Driver". My kids have an XP based machine too so I installed Fax on theirs
as well and it also says "Microsoft Shared Fax Driver". So yours does not
say that? What should it say? Is there more than one Microsoft Fax Driver?
BTW, I also get the preview error even if I start the fax from the fax
console rather than using the fax printer to print an existing document from
an application.

As the screen shots I provided show, I am in fact using XP Fax. It's the

one
that comes with Windows XP Pro. Also, as far as I know, I am not using

a
"shared Fax driver", whatever that is, and after looking through this

entire
thread cannot find a single occurrence of the word "shared", or even
"driver" in any of my posts. Are you sure you aren't getting this

thread
confused with another one you are helping someone on?

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message

Also, what fax software are you really using? Windows XP Fax cannot be
shared, yet you are printing to a shared Fax driver.
I suspect there is more to this story than we've been told.

Default Cannot send fax w/cover page

I have the same problem. I am using XPHome edition. I just loaded Fax a couple of days ago, and it had the problem from the start. I can fax from any program as long as I do not include a cover sheet. If I include a cover sheet or try to fax from the c
onsole with a cover sheet only, the fax wizard will complete as it is supposed to, but once I hit send, nothing happens. No error, no fax, nothing in the outbox. I have tried both the default cover pages and a personal cover page. Don't know if this has
anything to do with it, but I am using Outlook express. Sure would be nice to make it work as I like being able to use the same phone book for fax and email.
