Yes, one of my friends bought a real cheap tablet for exactly that
reason. He could have fun without committing a lot of money. A pretty
reasonable strategy, IMO.

Agreed. I recently bought an HP Stream 7 tablet (Windows 8.1) for $99
at Office Max. For that price I thought why not. I was surprised at
how well it worked. IMO every bit as good as my Nexus 7 at two times
the price or my wife's iPad Mini at 4 times the price. However the
Windows desktop is a just a bit touchy with the tiny icons on a 7"
screen but still quite usable. My biggest complaint is its 4 to 5 hour
battery life.

You are complaining about 4-5 hours of battery life for continuous use?

You use it for that long w/o a break?

No, but it would be nice to leave it off the charger for a week or
more like I can my 10+ hour tablets. Still overall I'm quite happy
with it for the $99 price tag. If the worst nit I can find is its
battery life than you know it can't be all that bad...

Well, my Kindle Fire "provides up to 8 hours of continuous reading or
7.5 hours of video playback, with wireless off."

I have no idea if that is the case because I mostly play games on it. I
can play 2 straight hours of games and I have about 50% left. I just
plug in the charger while I'm not using it.
