Anti-virus program?
Hi. I'm looking for a new FREE antivirus program. I've been using AVG. I
recently installed it on a new machine and all was going well until I tried installing a program called aTube Catcher, which lets you download and save YouTube videos. I have aTube Catcher on one machine and it works fine. I try installing it on a new machine and AVG keeps finding a file and stopping me from installing the program. I looked it up online and there are quite a few complaints, all pointing at AVG. I've also noticed on the new machine, AVG is finding fault with downloads of other programs I have been using on the old machine. AVG just seems to have gotten very choosy lately, so I'm wondering if there's another goor freebie out there. Thanks. |

It is already on your windows 8/8.1 machine and all it needs is to re-activate it and then download all the updates since it was last updated. In most cases you will need to go to Windows update and select all Windows Defender updates and download them. IMHO, it is time to get a paid subscription to either McAfee and/or Symantec Endpoint protection. I have used McAfee before and now I am using Symantec Endpoint because I get both free of charge because I buy corporate license and so Home use becomes free for employees. Good luck. I vouch for Mcafee. I get it free with my ISP and frankly, I feel very secure with it installed. Windows Defender isn't good enough to be anything but very basic protection. -- Slimer Proud "wintroll" Encrypt. |

I don't use any products that come as PUP's. Mcafee is close to being malware. Anything but Mcafee! -- JT |

So far, so good. It let me download and install aTube Catcher. After I installed it, I ran Avast, and nothing bad was picked up. I'll see how it goes. Thanks again for the help so far. I'm still open to any other suggestions just in case. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

File System and Web will suffice. If you've already installed Avast you can still uninstall all Tools through: Control Panel Programs and Features Avast Free Antivirus Change -- s|b |

And, if you do use the Mail Shield, somewhere in it's settings is an option to turn off that little "From Avast" advertisement that it puts in outgoing mail. -- Pete Cresswell |

--- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus Yeah, you need to get rid of that... FWIW: there *is* an option to do that and I have long since forgotten how I did it. Took me awhile to find it, but if you were to Google the right words you could probably zero in on it quickly. -- Pete Cresswell |
