Default Mouse problem solved

Hello, I was getting some weird behavior with scrollbars. When I had a
opened box or window, the list was scrolling for itself till the end. If I
had a horizontal and vertical scrollbar, both horizontal and vertical were
moving when I tried to roll the mouse wheel. Did a search and read some help
pages, tried some hints but after all it was a hardware problem. So now I'm
using a borrowed mouse. Does anyone know anything about this specific
problem? Can I fix the mouse I had before?

Thanks

Sounds like a lint or other buildup.

If it's a laser mouse, no mouse ball, then try some compressed air to
blow on the led. Keep an eye out for loose parts flying out as
sometimes the compressed air can pop off the lens on the laser.

If it is the mouse ball style then dis-assembly is the best bet, then
clean out the two wheel assembly's as they can build up lint and such in
them.

If the mouse is cordless, change the battery(s) as well.

Since you located the source of your problem, the most practical thing
to do would be to buy a new mouse. Far cheaper than the time you'll
spend here trying to find and implement a fix.

With two identical mice, you can have a total of four to six
switches (microswitches). When a switch starts to malfunction,
you can transfer a switch from one (broken) mouse to the other mouse.

It would be pretty difficult to buy new switches having
just the right dimensions.

And the other sort of failure, is "worn plastic". The nub on the
bottom of the mouse button, wears down.

It sounds like your switch is jammed in the ON position.
Cleaning debris build-up under the mouse button, can
help.

Note that some mice, are a maze of parts inside. The scroll
wheel might have a dozen separate parts, which can fly apart
when touched. Work on a bright clean surface, so you can see
where all the parts went.

On modern mice, there are labels on the bottom of the mouse,
and they hide a single screw head. You can puncture the label
with a Philips head screwdriver tip, and remove the single screw.
The mouse tends to be a hinged design, and you should now be able to
get it apart.

Much older mice, there can be rubber or plastic feet shoved into
holes. And at the base of the hole is a screw head. And pulling
out the foot is necessary to access the screw.

If you have a strong magnet handy, you may be able to locate the
screw heads with the magnet.

You might look through Mouse Properties to see what the wheel is set to do.
If no solution there, dump the mouse.
