"Get Windows 10" Icon On TaskBar: How To Get Rid of It?
I had disabled Windows Update service and Background Intelligent
Transfer Service, but still wound up with this scary "Get Windows 10" icon on the system's TaskBar. This is on a box that I am trying to get working with DriveBender as a backup for my NAS box and I *really* do not need any more complications right now - and I am afraid that somehow I will fat-finger that icon and bring the house down. So.... how to drive a stake through it's little black heart ? -- Pete Cresswell |

You could try a program like this... http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/201...ly-remove.html http://ultimateoutsider.com/download...trol_panel.exe Or, you could merge in a .reg file with a few stoppers in it. You can see in this example, there is one called "DisableGWX" just for the icon and friends. ******* DisableGWX.reg ******* Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;Created by Vishal Gupta for AskVG.com [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\GWX] "DisableGWX"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\WindowsUpdate] "DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\WindowsUpdate\OSUpgrade] "AllowOSUpgrade"=dword:00000000 "ReservationsAllowed"=dword:00000000 ******* end DisableGWX.reg ******* Paul |

If you don't need Internet access on that box, you could disable it (by simply removing the gateway IP) and just give it LAN access. -- Char Jackson |

I like it. Done.... Thanks! Nice. I have a couple of boxes here that need LAN access, but have no business talking to the Internet, so I made them LAN-only. I don't have to wonder who they talk to late at night. -- Char Jackson |
