"A network cable is unplugged."
We have a small network, four computers running Windows
XP. It has been running fine for months. Suddenly, without any observable issue, we get this pop-up message "Local Area Connection -- A network cable is unplugged." Then after a 5-30 seconds, a second pop-up message appears: "Local Area Connection is now connected - - Speed 100.0 Mbps" These messages continue appearing randomly throughout the day at intervals of every few minutes. It is very frustrating and disruptive, and affects our ability to send and receive email. The first time, I checked all cable and network card connections, so this is not the problem. It apparently has something to do with some obscure settings, and is likely an erroneous message. It may also have something to do with a recent update from Microsoft. However, until it disappears, our operation is not stable. Any ideas? Bill B |

It actually means that XP can't detect a connection to another device on the other end of the cable. It could be that the message is spurious. It could also be that something is going wrong with the network connection and that XP is correctly pointing it out. In other words, the message might be the result of a transient problem on the network, not the cause. Try downloading and installing the latest XP network card drivers. Try a different cable, different switch port, etc. I'm sorry, but I don't know of any way to disable the message. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. "A network cable is unplugged."
I would suspect something wrong in the hardware, it may be make & break
contact. Ensure, Cable, RJ45 jack, hub port, or lan card etc etc. One of my friend solved this type of prob by his Cat5 cable. All the best. "Bill Bryant" wrote in message ...
