Impossible to get old account working again.

Since quite a while now I can't fully login using my own account which has administrator rights. So I managed to login as an Administrator, made a new account and transferred a lot from the old account into this new one. However I would like to now why I can't get the old account working. This is what happens I login with my old account and all the shortcuts on the left hand appear, but nothing comes up in the notification area. Not even if I try the safe mode. Through execute msconfig I choose "Selective startup" and disabled quite everything. Same result no icons i/t systray. Where can I find out what is blocking the applications to appear in the systray ? Everything freezes and nothing happens......
