why can't i close out a window?
HELP! HELP! HELP!
Can someone help me figure out why I can't escape from a window by clicking on the X when I am on the internet? For some reason anytime I go to close a page my computer won't let me. Is this something that my computer has been configured to do automatically? The only way I can close a window is by pressing control+alt+delete and this brings up the task manager. When I click on the item I want to close out it will close. The only problem with this is that every other page I have open in the net will also close then. Thanks |

Here is some advice: 1) Download, install, update and use the following anti-spyware apps: Lavasoft AdAware http://www.lavasoft.de/ Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/ SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/ 2) Keep your antivirus software updated! Do not have Antivirus Software installed? ARGH! These are free: AVG 6.0 - http://tinyurl.com/eod avast! 4 - http://tinyurl.com/ct9p AntiVir - http://www.free-av.com/ 3) Keep windows patched! http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ 4) Consider installing/using a firewall. Have XP? To enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall: 1. Open Network Connections 2. Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection. On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one of the following: - To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box. - To disable Internet Connection Firewall, clear the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box. why can't i close out a window?
Let me restate your concern and make sure i understand the phenomenon. You
open a web page to http://www.msnbc.com, and then when you hit the X, it will not close. Using File-Close doesnt work, either? You dont hear the swish/click of a closing window either? I have run across some spamhijack pages that do a lot of annoying things, like reopening a window to the same site over and over, making it seem like it never closes, but in reality, its just opened a new window to the same site. Does your problem happen only on certain sites, or will it reproduce by opening some 'safe' sites, like google/msnbc that dont do things like that? Does this happen to any other application besides internet explorer? Have you installed the updates from Windows Update for IE and any OS services packs? Has this been a problem since you got the machine? When did it start? -Ben This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. why can't i close out a window?
If you have the window on the top that you are looking to close, then if you
press alt and F4 together, it will close the top window only. wrote in message ... HELP! HELP! HELP!
