Default Computer just slowed to a crawl ..... XP Home

We've got a 2 year old HP Pavillion computer with 1.1 GHz
Celeron processor, 128 MB RAM, 40 MB hard drive, has been
working fine.

Just within the past two weeks, everything seems to have
gone into slow motion .... taking forever to open things.
Yesterday, I downloaded and installed Microsoft updates
..... they took 1 minute to download, and 90 minutes or more
for the computer to install them.

Any ideas appreciated.

Hi Jerry,

Run a spyware cleaner: Ad-Aware or Spybot.

Hi Jerry,

Kelly, we did just that before running MS updates. We=20
downloaded and installed SpyHunter from Enigma Software. =20
Now, I will admit that I found close to 200 instances of=20
code (I don't recall what the code was called, and the=20
computer isn't at this location, so I can't easily check=20
it) in the Registry that SpyHunter suggests is likely=20
there because HP put it there .... in order to keep track=20
of updates. I didn't delete those 200 instances, but=20
deleted all the other spyware.
