XP Home remote fax
I am trying to set up remote fax on a small network: All machines run XP. Host machine fax runs fine. I believe I have set up permissions correctly on the host fax consul. When I try to install new network printer/fax and; select - "browse for a printer" it will not see host fax consul on the network. or select - "connect to this printer" it tries to connect me to the host as a guest, it then says my credentials do not match - what's that all about? Can anyone give me an ideas please? -- Guy Smith Great Missenden Web Pages: http://www.smith.dsl.pipex.com |

XP Home remote fax
From the new FAQ posted just 11 minutes before you asked your question:
10) Why can't I share my fax modem when using XP Fax? The XP Fax Service does not support sharing. The Fax Console Help Files contain instructions on how to configure a remote Fax Printer, but those instructions refer to using XP Fax as a client, not as a shared service. XP Fax can serve as a client to fax programs that do support sharing, such as Small Business Server Fax and Windows Server 2003 Fax. Cari www.coribright.com "Guy Smith" wrote in message ... XP Home remote fax
Yes I am trying to set it up as a client (I think??!!)
I do understand it will not share in the XP way i.e. "share this printer". The problem is the permissions (I think - again!). I have just fiddled with the fax consul permissions on the host and can now see the hosts fax consul on the network using windows explorer but it will not appear when adding remote fax via add new printer as I described before. Should I be able to do it this way? Or is it a lost cause, unless I use a more versatile/expensive consul software? |

XP fax can only be used from the local machine. You cannot use XP fax from
any other machine (by doing add printer or anything else). If you want to have one fax modem to be shared by multiple users, you shuold get a Windows Server 2003 on which sharing of fax is allowed.
