XP Home Activation
After reinstalling XP Home onto my pc, an activation message appeared stating
that I had "25 days to activate windows" or else! When I attempted to do so the activation window told me that windows had already been activated. After the time had expired, Windows will no longer let me log in until I activate it, and as before when I attempt to do so...it states that it has already been activated and logs me off. I attempted to start in safe mode and an error screen that I can not exit out of appears, it says that Windows has been shut down to prevent damage because a problem occurred...IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I called the automated MS activation number and went to the web site and they both ask me for the activation number that appears in the activation window. Unfortunately, there is no such number, only a message that states that windows has already been activated and I am not able to access the “Start” menu because I can not log on. I am on a military base in Japan and there is little IT help available to me and I am not too savvy myself, can anyone help me answer these questions: 1. How do I get out of the error screen without damaging my computer? 2. How do I find the activation number? 3. How do I activate Windows? |

Maybe it's already been activated on another machine, which means you can
not activate it on this system. Did you buy it, or did it come with your computer, from the manufacture? Or did you get it elsewhere? Bill Crocker "Mad@MS" wrote in message ... Microsoft does not support OEM versions of Windows XP. Therefore, try
calling your computer manufacture, possibly they can help. As for the error; IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. This is usually caused by attempting to use the wrong driver/software, for a hardware device. If you had a video card, sound card, or something similar, and you used older drivers for Windows 2000, would be an example of what might cause this. One case that has come out about this problem is that it arises if you install SP2 after having used the Reset 5 hack to evade activation. Only reliable course is to do a reinstall, without the hack, and activate legitimately -- Alex Nichol MS MVP (Windows Technologies) Bournemouth, U.K. (remove the D8 bit) |

What is the Reset 5 hack ? Don't get it. Xp sp2 may not install. Also, your system maybe reported as pirated. Best bet is to backup all your data. Do either a clean install or use the restore cd if it was preinstalled. After that install sp2 using the cd you got. Greg R |
