2 things to try until someone more knowledgeable comes along:

1) Disable the Active Directory/Desktop and see if this fixes it.
2) Run the Connection Wizard and Network Setup Wizard to see if they can
fix it.

To send your message to multiple newsgroups on the same news server, in the
New Message dialog box, click the icon next to Newsgroups. In the Pick
Newsgroups dialog box, click one or more newsgroups from the list (hold down
the CTRL key to select multiple newsgroups), and then click Add. You can
choose from all newsgroups or only those you subscribe to by clicking Show
only subscribed newsgroups.

You can send a given message to more than one newsgroup at a time only if
all the newsgroups are on the same news server. To post a message to
newsgroups on other news servers, create a separate message for each news
server.

What is the problem, can I fix that,
Thanks

Out of interest, Dose it still freez if you dont install the windows
updates?

Out of my personal prefence, i never do windows updates, i have SP1,
but thats becasue the version of XP i have is SP1, i dont do auto
updates on the basis that i do not belive i need them. basicly this
stems from "if it works, dont fix it" basicly. Alot of the updates
are patches for flaws, but you dont need them if you use a firewall
(such as zone alarm) to stop windows from accessing the internet, only
programs which arnt made by ms are alowed to access the interent.
Plus, from past experiance when using updates, i find that they
destabalise windows, hence from not installing any updates, windows is
as stable as it could posably be.
