I am curious, what do you find so "icky" about Total Commander? I find it to be
the most powerful, fastest and full featured file management tool ever
published.

I am also curious. Have you tried Free Commander and Unreal Commander
(both of which are free, and Total Commander is $46)? What you like
about Total Commander in preference to these other two?

I purchased a multi-user license for TC years ago. I mentioned UC as an option
but forgot about FC. As for why I like TC over the others, it seems faster to
me, I am accustomed to it and it has never failed me. I have the other two and
tried them, but I just like the speed of TC, the ability to add special plug-ins
and the renaming capability is indispensable to me.

OK, I'm not convinced that it's better than the other choices I
mentioned, but thanks anyway.

I have been taking a closer look at FreeCommander. It is a nice utility with a
couple of nice features.

FC is noticeably slower when opening and performing some operations than TC. In
fact, when I selected one view option (plain view files, folders) in FC, the
program seemed to hang, but it came back to life after about 90 seconds. This
was probably because I have many hundreds of thousands of files in thousands of
directories on this system. The same operation in TC was noticeably faster.

FC is a good freeware choice,

I think so too. That's what I like and use. Thanks for agreeing.

if I didn't own TC, I would probably use FC.

Anyone that's tried out this type of utility...

Anyone tested Directory Opus, and what's your thoughts about it? It's
not free.

I've got Q-Dir installed in Windows 8, may add it to Win 7.

I loved DirOpus back in my Amiga days, but haven't used it since. Back then,
it was head and shoulders above anything else, but time may have marched on
and some of the competitors may have stepped up their game, so my review is
worthless. :-)
