Windows XP SP2 Pop Up Blocker
Technical:
I think I have managed to tie down the PopUp Blocker, but whenever I preview web pages that I am developing, internal to my computer, iE identifies the Flash and states "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options...". If anyone knows of the best way (aside from reinstalling Windows XP and making sure it cannot secretly install SP2... I could use that information too) to disable this PopUp Blocker for good, please let me know. I only have to tell the toolbar to allow blocked content 75 - 100 times during my development sessions, but I would prefer that it be never. Personal: I don't remember inviting SP2 on to my computer, and I certainly don't remember setting a preference that sneaks "Shut Down and Install Updates" into my shutdown dialog box. I don't remember opting to download updates, and I try hard not to install them ever since SP2 arrived. I hate, while in the middle of an online game, XP takes over my screen to let me know I have a short period of time left (and the clock is ticking) to restart my computer to complete the installation (I did not request) of the update (I did not request) to SP2 (I did not request). I've often kind of looked at Linux users out of the corner of my eye, but every day that my computer does something I don't expect as a result of an Operating System that works more-and-more like a virus, I would like to return to a computer device that I manage control over. LOL! Maybe I should buy a Windows Firewall/Virus Protection software and see if it uninstalls itself. |

SP2 for Windows XP did not install without you clicking on the
"I Agree" button presented to you in the EULA for SP2. You probably forgot what you did. I suggest you learn to develop your web pages on a SP2 computer since many folks already have this significant, and critical, security enhancement installed. Try these 2 things - make the sites trusted and allow ActiveX to run from

Carey,
Thank you for responding to my personal question. It is very interesting to review your tone, your title, and a troubleshooting response that amounts to SP2 propaganda. You may want to read the other options that was posted by Star Fleet Admiral Q as it covered the basics of troubleshooting this issue and are reasonable and logical options I had already attempted. So that you can enhance your technical knowledge, I will explain to you that the way to get this problem fixed is to a) leave the pop-up blocker on (this application will apparently still work {albeit, improperly}, even whenever it is turned off) and b) put the computer's IP address in the pop-up blocker's allowed sites. What is MVP? "Carey Frisch [MVP]" wrote: SP2 for Windows XP did not install without you clicking on the "I Agree" button presented to you in the EULA for SP2. You probably forgot what you did. Thank you for the helpful ideas.
I had already tried those to no avail. I did find, though, that by leaving the pop-up blocker on (boy that sucks) and making sure that the pop-up blocker settings allow my computer's IP address, the pop-ups don't happen. If I turn the pop-up blocker off, then the pop-up blocker does come up. Weird huh? When I tell it to work, I can make it so that it doesn't. When I tell it I don't want it to work, I can't make it so that it doesn't.
