WD SATA Drive not seen
I have an MK8M800 Chaintech mobo that is unable to recognize a newly
purchased WD SATA 250gig HD that I'm trying to use as storage. During bootups it hasn't seen the HD on either of the 2 connections that I have. I've gone all thru the BIOS... I.E., Made sure that PnP is set to "No". I've gone into (Intergrated Peripherals) to (VIA Onchip IDE Device) to (SATA Mode)... There, I have the options of IDE or RAID. I've changed it to RAID w/no success. - - - I've been scouring the Net trying to find out what needs to be done and have run across that drivers ?maybe? needed & to use F6 to get this done via floppy... as suggested by this person who seems to have gone thru something similar http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/motherboards-bios-cpu/26688-chaintech-sata-drive-install-xp.html I haven't the faintest idea what drivers to look for & also my board doesn't support floppy drives and I would really NOT prefer to go thru the changes of connecting one externally. I've also run across suggestions of updating the BIOS. I was under the impression that once the necessary changes were made in the BIOS that nothing else further was needed.- - AnYoNe out there have AnY suggestions At aLL?? THANX N ADVANCE WB |

THANX N ADVANCE WB Install the "Force 150" jumper on the back of the drive. Not all SATA drives have a jumper area, in which case you might need something like the Hitachi Feature Tool to set it. See page 11 here, for a warning about VIA SATA interfaces. http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/m...n_guide_en.pdf Paul |

WD SATA Drive not seen
Hello Peter,
An EIDE is supporting my OS. This is my first attempt to attaching a SATA onto the board. I've downloaded the chipset drivers and have gone thru the install process. So now "VIA SATA RAID Controller" shows up within "Device Manager"... But, the drivers seems to NOT work because I have the (yellow ! exclamation point) over it. WB "peter" wrote: I would suggest you check your BIOS settings to make sure SATA is enabled and go to the Chaintech website to look for SATA drivers for your particular mobo chipset. Since you already have an OS installed you would just need to install the SATA drivers from within the OS..no floppy needed. Is your old HD a SATA or EIDE drive..??? peter -- DISCLAIMER: If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate, or disruptive, please ignore it. Most new SATA hds wont show up,no matter what settings you adjust, the
problem lies in its "raw" stage, from the factory.Simply set BIOS for IDE & SATA,if youre running both, install xp cd,set to boot to xp cd,at F6,install the floppy disk for the SATA/RAID controller, after, press r For recovery, select 1 For C: Press enter for password, typeiskPart In DiskPart, create a partition on SATA Press ESC when thru, type:FORMAT D: /FS:NTFS D: being SATA hd,when thru, type:EXIT Let xp start,or reset BIOS,remove xp cd.
