Default What is the difference between a Windows XP OEM VS the retail Version of Windows XP ?

There are 3 types of License in Windows XP. The Retail, Volume License and Original Equipment Manufacturer which is OEM. Whats the difference between the OEM VS the Retail of Windows XP? And when most People build there own Computers...Do they use the OEM version or the Retail Version??

Thanks for your advice. I am just curious.
