Default Msnmsgs is causing problem ... at Windows XP Shutdown

Sine some weeks I have this error message when I want to shutdown my
computer, what must I do to correct it, remove Messenger ??? In the same
time since this problem appears I remark that Outlook Express is very long
to load (2 to 5 minutes) when Messenger is active on it. Messenger is always
trying to load on my LAN why?

Greetings,

Do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging scanning"
feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause this behavior.
To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System
Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then
Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

I have adjust NAV 2003, but the problem persist, Outlook Express is very
slow to load in memory (the checkbox for Messenger isn't check) and I keep
receiving the message box concerning MSMSGS when shutting down my Window XP
Pro. So I have tried to remove Messenger (using your method, the usual
method in windows doesn't seems to work), the problem disapears, I reinstall
the latest version and ... the problems are re-install. What to do now ?

Hi,

Well, you can probably solve the Outlook Express problem by closing down Outlook Express,
downloading and running this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...ssenger_oe.reg
This will stop any integration with Messenger and Outlook Express.

As well, have you installed DirectX 9 (a recent game/demo may have as well) -- if so, this
type of issue may be caused by that, you can find DirectX 9a which corrects this he
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...oads/drx90.asp

If that still doesn't work (or didn't apply), you simply might try a full reinstallation of
Windows Messenger. To do so, close down Messenger (right click the messenger icon in the
notification area/system tray and click close). Then go into the Task Manager (press
Ctrl-Alt-Del or right-click on the taskbar and choose Task Manager), click the Processes tab,
look for msmsgs.exe, if it's running, click it and then click End Process. Then click the
start button, then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK and reinstall Messenger from:
http://messenger.microsoft.com/downl....asp?client=0.
