Default power saving using batteries

Hi,
I have an AMD 64 3000 laptop. I recently had to reinstall everything and
since then the computer acts in a weird way when using batteries. I have set
the screen to turn off after 1 minute (in battery and mains mode) but after
about a minute or two it comes back on again. When using mains the screen
stays off. I have gone to msconfig and turned everything of in start up,
without helping.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Robbybobs
