usbhub20.sys not included in Windows XP sp2
I'm trying to get my Targus USB 2.0 hub to run at USB 2.0 speed.
Everything I've located on the internet indicates that Windows XP service pack 2 should include the necessary files to install it at 2.0 speed. It always installs intself as "Generic Hub" instead of "Generic Hub on a 2.0 bus" which is what it's supposed to do. I searched my hard drive for the drivers but usbhub20.sys doesn't exist. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. Bill |

If you plugged-in your USB 2.0 hub to an existing USB 1.1 port,
it not going to run at 2.0 speeds. It needs a USB 2.0 compliant connection for maximum speed. Thanks for the reply. I have a USB 2.0 compliant desktop computer.
All of the ports running on the desktop are USB 2.0. I have plugged in a USB Hub that is 2.0 compliant but it isn't being recognized by Windows XP as a USB 2.0 Hub. I believe the driver will load as "Generic Hub on USB 2.0 bus". This driver does not exist in SP2 and I don't know how to get it. So to summarize, my USB controller on the desktop motherboard does run USB 2.0 but the USB 2.0 Hub does not load the proper drivers to run at USB 2.0. Any help is appreciated! Bill |

Here's the instructions from the Targus users manual regarding
successful installation in Windows XP: Verifying Device is Installed Windows=AE Operating System To check that the hub is installed properly, use Device Manager to locate the Generic USB Hub on USB 2.0 Bus device. To access Device Manager for the Windows=AE 98/Me operating system, right-click My Computer, Properties, and then click the Device Manager tab. For the Windows=AE 2000/XP operating system, right-click My Computer, Properties, click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button. To test that the hub is working properly, in the Device Manager window: 1 Select the Generic USB Hub on USB 2.0 Bus device. 2 Click the Properties button or icon, depending on your operating system. |

I do not see any USB 2 hubs in my XP Pro set up. I have two USB 2 hubs and
they just show up as "Generic USB Hubs". I do know that they are working at USB 2 since my USB 2 devices seem to work correctly. wrote in message ups.com... Yves, I just recently discovered that my bios wasn't set to USB/High Speed enabled. I still have the root hubs, but I picked up an extra enhanced usb device in device manager when I went to look, after I enabled High speed in the bios. Just a suggestion. It appears that my USB 2.0 is properly installed and operating. If I
plug a USB flash drive directly into the computer it runs at 2.0 speed. If I plug the hub into the computer, it complains that I have plugged a 2.0 device into a 1.1 plug. I'm very confused. The Hub is recognized as a 2.0 device but wants to install itself as a 1.1 device. I've tried every plug in my computer and also tried it on my brand new Dell latop with the same result. It appears to be a problem with the USB hub and not the desktop computer. Still could be a problem with the device drivers for the USB on the computer but dont' think so since a brand new laptop has the same problem. The USB hub is a Targus PAUH200 if that helps. Thanks again. Bill Treeman wrote: Yves, I just recently discovered that my bios wasn't set to USB/High Speed enabled. Ok........Finally got it to work!!!! Here's the
solution....ready???.........I unplugged the external power supply to the USB hub! Don't know why but as soon as I did that the USB hub was recognized by the USB 2.0 controller and given a port with USB 2.0 speed. All device that are connected to it are now at 2.0 speed. Hopefully maybe someone else can use this information! Thanks to all for your help. Bill |

Thanks Bill, for the post back. What cleared up your problem is usually a backwards cure for most folks here. They get the 1.1 speeds because they _don't_ have the USB hub powered. Go figure. It may be that the Targus hub has some power wiring problems that negates the 2.0 speeds? Well you've got it working, that's all that counts.
