Default extending laptop screen to external monitor - works but question

hello,
I use external monitor with laptop (HP Compaq 6910p) and it works but... I
use both laptop and external display at the same time, essentially looking
for a dual display type setup. The problem is when I maximize a program
window it only takes up one display, it does not use both? Can I make it do
that? I can move windows between the displays but one window will not strech
to use both at the same time? This is essential for me when using terminal
services, maximizing the TS session so that within it I have a dual display
to work with.

using xp sp3 with ati mobility radeon x2300 graphics

anyone know?

nevermind, after noticing other windows did extend accross both screens I
realized it was an mstsc.exe specific thing... and there is a switch you use
to enable what I needed

mstsc.exe /span

this enables dual monitor support for the remote desktop client. Not sure if
actually required but I also made sure to set my external monitor to the
same resolution as my laptop lcd. All is well now.

thanks anyway.
